Our Troop Songs
We have a number of songs that our troop sings regularly, such as the Troop 1001 Song and Scout Vespers.  The melodies will stay with us forever.

Welcome to our troop website!
This is the official website of Troop 1001 of Richardson, Texas.  It is designed to help you learn more about our troop, its activities and programs, and see where we've been and where we're headed.  The troop meets Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Trinity Bible Church, 400 West Campbell, across from Richardson Regional Hospital.  If you would like to visit one of our meetings, please contact our Scoutmaster, Mr. Clark Kinnaird, at c-kinnaird@ti.com.

Next Event: Mar 17-19 -- Campout -- Camporee

Troop 1001 will be camping at Camp Cherokee near Athens, TX for the Circle Ten District Camporee the weekend of March 17 - 19, 2006. Scouts should be at the church parking lot no later than 5:30 p.m. on Friday Evening in Class A uniform. We will be returning by 12:45 p.m. Sunday to the hospital parking lot across Campbell Road.  Kevin will shave his head if we win, so there’s your motivation. Adults will cook for everyone, so bring $10 for chow. Download the permission form and driver information form.  Camporee info at www.northtrail.org.  Map at Google Maps.

Mar 25 -- Bike Rodeo

We will help run Prairie Creek Elementary School’s bike rodeo on the morning of Saturday, March 25. Scouts needing service hours for rank advancement and those in the Cycling merit badge are especially encouraged to attend. The rodeo is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Scouts should arrive an hour early to help set up.  Troop 1001 will provide a shelter, coolers, and a first-aid kit in addition to scout volunteers.  See the flyer.  Rain date is April 1.

Merit Badges – First Aid and Communications
Both of these are Eagle-required merit badges, and both teach important skills.

Communications Merit Badge imageMrs. Lofley will be counseling the Communications merit badge on Mondays before the Troop meeting. Be ready with your supplies (paper, pencil/pen, notebook, merit badge book) at 6 pm. This is for Scouts 13 and up, due to the writing requirements involved. The communications merit badge is an Eagle requirement. While some of the assignments are a little challenging, they are fun and allow you to use a little creativity. Expect the class to run for 8-10 weeks on most Mondays, including a trip to a city council or school board meeting, writing and giving a speech, some internet research and several short, written papers. Much of the work will be done at home, but shouldn't take more than an hour a week. Assignments will have due dates.

First Aid Merit Badge imageMr. Reisinger will be counseling the First Aid merit badge also on Mondays at 6pm. This will also cover the first-aid requirements for 2nd Class and 1st Class ranks.  The merit badge start Monday Feb 20 and continue for 5-6 weeks at 6:00 pm in Room at TBC Bring your Scout Handbook, First Aid Merit Badge Book, and a copy of the study guide (PDF). For any scout who is not Second Class, they will need to make a personal first aid kit, Requirement 6b. All scouts will need to make a Home First Aid, Requirement 2b. Mr. Reisinger will have latex gloves, a mouth-barrier device for rescue breathing or CPR, and plastic goggles for sale at the meetings.

Oak Leaf Leadership Training
Oak Leaf is a junior leader training course designed to supplement Troop level training. It is for Boy Scout youth, First Class rank or above who will be serving in a leadership capacity within their Troop. Minimum age is 12 years old at time of course. Oak Leaf is highly recommended by Circle 10 as preparation for leadership positions. See http://www.northtrail-info2.com/data/oak_leaf.php for more info. Deadline for early registration is March 20; the course is April 1-2.

Philmont Trek 2006
There is still room on the crew for scouts and adults.  Any scout completing 8th grade by the summer of 2006 can go with the approval of the scoutmaster.  .  Philmont cost is $520.

Scouting for Food
Twenty-one of our Scouts and ten adults came together to collect canned goods last Saturday. When all was done we had collected over 1400 items for the needy in our North Texas community. That is an average of over 60 items per Scout, so you see how our good deeds can be multiplied. Thanks to Dean Voight and Theresa Dolan for making this happen.

Winter Survival Campout
The campout at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch near Bridgeport, TX (map) Jan 27-29 was pretty cool.  The patrols accepted the challenge of building shelters for Saturday night, and each came up with a different solution.  They showed great ingenuity and Scout spirit in working together, and toughing it out when things got frosty.  See this PDF file for an idea of what it was like.

Winter Camp
Our guys did great at Winter Camp, not only surviving (thanks for the mild weather) but finished in the top 3 in both the Sled Race and the Cooking competition.  Here are some pictures from Winter Camp.
